Tax Liens Sales

How long does a RESOLVED tax lien stay on your credit?

Had a tax lien that was challenged and resolved......... I have a Tax Lien Release from the IRS. It is still on one of my credit reports and when I questioned it, they came back and said it was still there and would now be on for another 11 YEARS! Can they do this? How can I get it removed?

  1. Call 1-800-913-6050 M-F 8 to 5 pm to contact the Lien Processing Unit: of the IRS they should be able to assist in getting the Lien lifted
  2. Any derogatory credit information can stay on your credit report for 7 to 10 years. The date in question to work from is the release date or date resolution. I would make sure that there are notes on your file as to the outcome of the lien with each of the 3 major credit bureaus - Trans Union, Equifax, & Experian. Get a few copies made and notarized as true copies of original for use when you apply for any major loans. This way you will always be prepared and upfront about the infomration. As time goes on, the lien will have less impact on the calculation of your credit score even though it still shows on the report. The letter will be the part that the lender will review for any lending decissions they make. Nothing ever comes off your credit report until it drops off once there unless it wasn't your to begin with.
